Interview with John Hussey, CEO of Trackgood Limited

Q: Can you introduce yourself to our readers?

John Hussey: My name is John Hussey, and I’m the CEO of Trackgood Limited. I have a background in technology and business, and I’ve always been passionate about creating solutions that drive positive change. My journey has taken me around the globe—from New Zealand to Germany and many other countries. This international exposure has shaped both my professional and personal experiences. Outside of work, I’m deeply committed to lifelong learning and personal growth. I’m also a huge fan of water sports and maintaining my fitness, which helps keep me grounded.

Q: What are the core values that drive you as a leader?

John Hussey: Integrity, perseverance, and empathy are the values I hold most dear. Integrity keeps me aligned with my principles, even when situations get tough. Perseverance pushes me to continue forward, especially when challenges arise. Empathy allows me to connect with others on a deeper level, ensuring that I can truly understand their needs and perspectives, which is essential for both leadership and personal relationships.

Q: Do you have a favorite quote that inspires you?

John Hussey: One of my favorite quotes is by Franklin D. Roosevelt: “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow is our doubts of today.” It serves as a reminder that self-belief and maintaining a forward-looking mindset are essential in overcoming any obstacles.

Q: Tell us more about Trackgood Limited and its mission.

John Hussey: Trackgood Limited focuses on providing transparency and traceability solutions for supply chains. Our platform enables businesses to track their products from origin to consumer, ensuring ethical practices and fostering trust with their customers. We believe that technology should be used as a force for good, helping companies live up to their sustainability commitments and uphold their values.

Q: What sets Trackgood apart from other companies in your field?

John Hussey: What makes Trackgood unique is our unwavering dedication to transparency and ethical business practices. We go beyond just providing data—we offer insights that empower companies to make more informed, responsible decisions. Our focus on sustainability and social impact is woven into everything we do, which positions us as a trusted partner for businesses looking to lead by example.

Q: Can you share a significant success from your career?

John Hussey: One of my greatest career successes was launching a company I co-founded on the NZX stock market. It was the culmination of years of hard work, innovation, and strategic planning. Seeing our vision take shape on such a major platform was incredibly rewarding and reinforced my belief in the power of perseverance and calculated risks.

Q: What was key to achieving that success?

John Hussey: It required a lot of personal sacrifice and risk. There were countless sleepless nights and moments of doubt, but I remained committed to the vision. Surrounding myself with a dedicated team and staying laser-focused on our goals allowed us to navigate the challenges and reach our objective.

Q: Who has been instrumental in your journey to success?

John Hussey: My wife has been incredibly instrumental in my success. Her unwavering belief in me and her support helped me keep pushing forward, even when things got tough. She kept me grounded and focused during challenging times, and I’m forever grateful for that.

Q: What’s a key lesson you’ve learned that could inspire other entrepreneurs?

John Hussey: One key lesson I’ve learned is the importance of resilience. In business, things rarely go as planned, and the ability to get back up after setbacks is crucial. Success is not about avoiding failure, but about how you manage it when it comes your way.

Q: Can you tell us about a major setback you’ve faced in your career?

John Hussey: The greatest setback I’ve encountered was the impact of the Covid pandemic on our business plans. We were gaining traction, but the global disruption created immense challenges that delayed our progress.

Q: How did you manage to overcome these challenges?

John Hussey: Perseverance was key. I stayed fully committed to our plans and adapted our strategies to meet the new realities. By focusing on what we could control and remaining flexible, we managed to navigate the difficult times.

Q: How did this setback affect you, and what did you learn from it?

John Hussey: It strengthened me and deepened my understanding of myself and my leadership approach. I learned to trust the process and embrace the journey, even when things are uncertain. Flexibility is essential, and backing yourself, even when the path forward isn’t clear, is critical.

Q: What has been the hardest decision you’ve had to make?

John Hussey: Moving back to New Zealand from Germany after spending 10 years there was the hardest decision I’ve made. It meant uprooting my family and leaving behind a life we had built over the past decade.

Q: What drove you to make that decision?

John Hussey: I prioritized the quality of life that New Zealand offers, particularly for my children. I felt that the environment, culture, and opportunities in New Zealand would provide a better foundation for their future, even though it meant leaving behind a lot of comfort and familiarity in Germany.

Q: Do you have any inspiring people you would recommend we feature?

John Hussey: I’d recommend Nimo Naamani. You can find him on LinkedIn.

Q: Finally, can you share a memorable moment from your journey with Trackgood?

John Hussey: One memorable moment was when both Trackgood Co-Founders were in Tokyo, Japan, collaborating on expanding our impact. I also have a fond memory from Naples, Italy, where I was with an advisor and some of our company supporters—moments that highlight the global nature of our work and the amazing people who have been part of this journey.
